Three decades ago, in the year 1982, the Civil Engineering students of Mapua Institute of Technology did a great step of founding the prestigious organization, the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers – Mapua Institute of Technology Student Chapter. PICE is a national organization that bonds all Civil Engineers around the country and it should be introduced as early as a student to promote the association of Civil Engineering students from different schools and practitioners of the said profession by estabilishing PICE Chapters. Knowing about this, Engr. Daniel Balmori, a current member of our faculty who was a student leader that time, spearheaded the initiative in bringing up PICE-MITSC. The pursuit was guided by Engr. Virgilio Santos who became the very first faculty adviser of the organization. The founders coordinated with PICE – Lungsod ng Maynila Chapter to be recognized and in September 23, 1983, PICE-MITSC was officially founded with the mission of making the future Civil Engineering graduates of Mapua be globally competitive.
The organization upholds to achieve the following objectives: the advancement of the knowledge and practice of civil engineering, the fostering and improvement of civil engineering education, the stimulation of research in civil engineering, the professional improvement of its members, the maintenance of high ethical standards in the practice of civil engineering, the promotion of good public and private clientele relationships, the development of fellowship among civil engineers, the encouragement of professional relations with other allied technical and scientific organizations, the establishment of central point of reference and union for its members and the civil engineering profession, and the acquisition, ownership, management and disposal of real and/or personal property incidental to or in furtherance of the above objectives of the institute.
